So you got the interview and now you need
to prepare yourself for the interview. The following are some suggestions
for the interview:
- Collect samples of your work, so that
you can show the interviewer, but do not let him or her take the materials
with them, especially if the material are from a previous company. This
information could be sensitive, so do not let it out of your sight, but
do take some materials with you to the interview. The materials will allow
the interviewer an opportunity to see your work.
- If you can, arrange some time with a friend
and do a mock interview, especially if you are concerned about it. Make
a little outline of what you would like to say, just to be prepared and
be open to challenging questions. Make a list of challenging questions for
your friend to ask you, about your profession. Also make a list of questions
that you would like to ask the interviewer, because they always ask and
it looks good to ask questions.
- On the day of the interview, dress for
the occassion. Make sure everything is crisp and clean. Look good. Smile.
Feel good and have a positive attitude with a strong handshake. This is
your time, so make it the best time you have ever had. Pretend you are visiting
a friend and throw away all your notes, because you want to communicate
naturally. Tell them exactly what you did in your last job and any major
accomplishments or special projects you did. Tell them why you think they
need you and how you can help their company..
- Remember the persons name that is interviewing
you and say his or her name once in a while. Make good eye contact. Ask
for their name and no matter who is interviewing you, always make a good
impression, because these people are going to get together later and they
will decide your future.
- At the end of interview say thank you
and ask them when they expect to make a decision.
Then keep your fingers crossed, light some
candles or do whatever you do to make your wishes come true. And if you do
not get the job, pick yourself up and start over.
