SQA METRICS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
During the project it is imperative that metrics and statistics related to the current project be available to the project team and the executive staff. Defect detailed reports, daily or weekly defect trends, and defects listed by priority, severity, categories, etc must be made to understand the progress of the project team. Also an SQA website containing this information would be valueable to all and it is a good means of communicating current status across the entire company.
The "Project Leader Guide" has some good examples of providing this kind of information. For samples and templates go to the SQA Documentation Samples and Templates tab.
Tools such as Crystal Reports, Seagate Analysis, Excel and MS Access are all good tools to extract the kind of information you will need. If your defect tracking system does not have a flexible program for generating the reports you need, then you will have to find out the data model used by your defect tracking system to extract the data, compile it and create the reports you want.
